Eugene "Gene" Horner, 81, of Strecker Road, Bellevue, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the Bellevue Care Center.
He was born April 2, 1932 in Sharonville, Ohio to the late Robert B. and Loretta (Hansman) Horner.
Gene graduated from Sharonville High School in 1951 and The Ohio State University in 1959. He had worked for US Steel and Agri-Chemicals. He was an IPM scout for The Ohio State University. He and his wife operated their pick-your-own farm, Horner's Corners for 30 years. Gene was an agriculture leader in the area. He had also served as the Groton Township Clerk for eight years. Gene was stationed on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, while serving our country as a staff sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
On August 3, 1968 he married Gloria Cleland, and she survives in Bellevue. Also surviving are their sons: Mark (Stacy) Horner of Medina; Kyle (Neilann) Horner of Albany, Oregon; and Brent (Daphne) Horner of Hong Kong; four grandchildren: Matthew, Kaitlyn, Allison, and Grace; and his siblings: Mary Lemker of Ludlow, Kentucky; Janet Owens of West Chester, Ohio; Marge Combs of Mongomery, Ohio; and Richard Horner of Sharonville, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Benard Horner.
Visitation will be 9-11:00am Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia Street, Bellevue. His funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Groton Township Volunteer Fire Department or Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
