Born in Rutland, Vt., Mr. Smith lived in Somerset, N.J., for 35 years prior to moving to West Orange, N.J., three years ago. Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Vermont in 1951, and had a Master's degree from Ohio State University. He was the Publication Coordinator for Rutgers University -- Cook College in New Brunswick, N.J., for 25 years before his retirement many years ago. Previously, Russell was the Agricultural Agent for Orange County, Vt., and worked in publications for the Agricultural Departments at Ohio State University and the University of Maryland. Mr. Smith was active in the 4-H program of Somerset County, the NJ Museum of Agriculture, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and a volunteer with the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. He is the brother of William F. Smith and his wife Donna, and the late Thomas Smith and his late wife Barbara; the uncle of Bruce, Jeff, Greg, Russell, Christine, Nancy and the late Thomas, Jr. He is also survived by three grand-nephews and seven grand-nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, PO Box 149, Bound Brook, NJ 08805 would be appreciated.
