Western National Roundup, held each year in Denver, is structured differently than most other more traditional 4-H events - past or present. First, participation is open to both 4-H and FFA member delegates, as well as volunteer leaders and Extension/FFA professionals approved by their respective state offices. Each participating youth and adult participates in one or more contests and/or workshops. Competition is for both individuals and teams. The Western National Roundup provides a place for youth to compete nationally while encouraging teamwork and self-confidence, and while focusing on the 4-H mission mandates: science, engineering, technology, mathematics, healthy living and citizenship. Educational tours and entertainment are all a part of the mix. There is a broad array of contests --
The annual Western National Roundup draws over 1,000 attendees. The coordinators of Western National Roundup are currently working on the history of this event. Contemporary HistoryThe Western National Roundup continues to be held each January in Denver, Colorado. The event is held at the same time as the famous National Western Stock Show.
