The journey of a photo and frame restoration and preservation project using a large photo of the delegates to the 1941 National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. The project was undertaken by 9-year-old Annie Bragg of Cleveland County, Oklahoma. The photograph was found after her great-grandmother, Julia Gabrish died. Her great aunt Mary Gabrish-Offutt found it and kept it for many years, donating it to the Cleveland County 4-H Office. Annie's Aunt Edith Gabrish-McDowell is pictured with the 1941 Oklahoma delegation to Congress, wearing a black dress and necklace. The photo was taken at the Stevens Hotel Congress banquet. Annie explains that Aunt Edith was a Cleveland County 4-H member and later an extension agent in Murray County (Sulphur, Oklahoma). Annie is proud that her family's 4-H history goes back 75 years and that three generations have gone to National 4-H Congress - Great Aunt Edith, her mother Theresa Gabrish-Bragg and Annie's sister Julie Bragg. This presentation truly tells a photo story of a family 4-H history and restoration of an heirloom skillfully created by a 9-year-old.

A major part of a 4-H Club for youth is participation in community service-learning activities through project work, either on an individual basis or as a group with fellow club members. Community service-learning by 4-H youth is certainly not a new concept. It is such a strong part of the 4-H program that sometimes it is overlooked or presumed to be a natural part of the learning process in 4-H Youth Development.

As no two textiles are exactly alike, it is difficult to give specific directions for their care and storage. However, there are general guidelines for the care of textiles that are delicate because of age and fabric characteristics, and there are guidelines for both storage and display of textile heirlooms in the home, which is the basic information of this publication.

2002 was the centennial year of America's 4-H movement. Rather than build a monument to its past, the leadership of this national youth development organization chose to convene "The National Conversation on Youth Development in the 21st Century" as its centennial gift to the nation. Never before has our nation created a positive youth development agenda, let alone from the ground up. The Conversations engaged 50,000 people of various ages and backgrounds from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The Conversations findings were used to develop an action plan for America's youth. The final report was produced by National 4-H Council. A very special thank you to the J. C. Penney After School Fund for their generous support for the national conversation process, particularly the production of this final report.

Produced through National 4-H Council with a financial grant from Philip Morris USA, an Altria Company. "The results of the study to date provide strong evidence that when the strengths of youth are aligned with the resources for health development in families, schools and communities, youth thrive." - Dr. Richard M. Lerner, PhD. The amount of research on positive youth development is small, especially when compared to research about the problems of adolescents.

An online, downloadable version is available. West Virginia 4-H Camp Songs and Music Traditions
This is a Masters' Degree thesis . The purpose of the study was to determine the role of music in 4-H traditions from the beginning of the organization to the present. In addition to the overall 4-H traditions, the research focused on traditions in the 4-H camping program. The research examined songs, song quality, and the role they played in the 4-H tradition and/or the 4-H camp experience. Differences and similarities of 4-H music from the beginning of the 4-H program in West Virginia to the present day were explored. The study also examined the origins of the songs used in the West Virginia 4-H program discerning whether or not it was specifically a 4-H original song or a song originally written for different purposes. The study described songs currently being used and those that are no longer used.

Youth participation can thus be defined as involving youth in responsible, challenging action that meets genuine needs, with the opportunity for planning and/or decision-making affecting others… There is mutuality in teaching and learning (between youth and adults) and where each age groupsees itself as a resource for the other and offers what it uniquely can provide.
